Vic; New drink drive laws proposed

Drunk people who let learner drivers drive them home could be breath-tested and fined
under new laws expected to be outlined in Victoria's parliament this week.

The Herald Sun newspaper says the new measures are part of the state government's strategy
to tighten the Road Safety Act and reduce the road toll.

The new laws include a new fine system which will penalise adult front-seat passengers
with a blood alcohol reading of more than .05 who let learners drive.

The newspaper says the drunk adult would be fined, but would not necessarily lose their licence.

The new changes would set the basic drink driving reading at .05 - at the moment drivers
with a reading over .05 are penalised.

Also, the paper says drivers would automatically lose their licence when they recorded
a blood alcohol reading of .1.
